Types of Blackjack
There are many different variations of blackjack that are available today. Particularly with the increasing popularity of online blackjack, more and more online casinos are offering multiple different types of blackjack games for their players to choose from. These are attractive to blackjack fans who are looking for a unique game or to other players who are looking for something a little different than regular blackjack. Some popular blackjack variations include Pontoon, Blackjack Surrender, 21 Duel Blackjack, Blackjack Switch, Lucky Blackjack and Progressive Blackjack. Make sure to familiarise yourself with the rules of the blackjack game you choose to play as slight subtleties in the rules will affect your playing strategy.
Pontoon
Pontoon is the British version of the game of blackjack and is similar to the American version. In Pontoon, the dealer is dealt two face down cards, as opposed to one face down and one face up card. In addition, achieving a Pontoon (a hand of five cards that has not gone bust) pays out at 2 to 1, as opposed to 1.5 to 1 in the American game. The aim of the game is the same as traditional American blackjack – to achieve closer to 21 than the dealer without going over.
Blackjack Surrender
Blackjack Surrender also has the same aim as traditional blackjack – to achieve closer to 21 than the dealer without going bust. The unique aspect of the game of Blackjack Surrender is that players are given the choice to surrender their hand for the cost of only half their bet. This is a choice that must be made on your first two cards and is an exciting option for anyone who has ever been dealt a bad hand and wished they could just start their hand over again from scratch.
